If you want to customize your PC, try putting a message up on the Welcome Screen for a user to see before they log in. Today, I am going to show you a neat trick that allows you to put a message on the Welcome Screen that the user has to read before logging in. Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
- Go to your Start Menu, type in regedit, and then click enter on your keyboard to go to the Registry Editor.
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
- Double-click on the legalnoticecaption value to modify it. In the “Value data” field enter the header you want. For example your company name or the name of your computer, then click “OK”.
- Double-click on the legalnoticetext value to modify it. In the “Value data” field enter the message you want. (There is no limit to how many characters you can or cannot have.) “Click OK”.
- Exit Registry Editor and restart Windows.
- After your computer reboots, you will see the text message you have just created at the Welcome Screen.
