If someone brought up the idea of Google becoming a mobile carrier right now, you’d probably laugh. That’s understandable, as most people would, but the folks over at CNN Money have been looking into the possibility of such a scenario, and you have to admit, while it sounds far-fetched, it does seem possible. We already know that Google is a pretty big company and it already does several cellular-related activities, such as creating a mobile phone operating system, selling it’s own Nexus-branded phone (granted, not a huge commercial success), offering the Google Voice calling service and also offer high speed Internet in some areas. Let’s not forget that back in 2008, Google put in a bid to buy wireless spectrum to provide mobile Internet access, though the spectrum ultimately went to Verizon for its 4G network. While the prospect of Google becoming a carrier is still a pie in the sky idea, who knows what the future might hold?
