As some of you might know, Acer is a very large company and owns a number of other brands that they sell their products though, Packard Bell is one such company.When they launch a netbook through the main Acer brand, they often rebrand the model for the Packard Bell brand.
The latest example of this seems to be the new Packard Bell Dot SE. This new Dot SE model is very similar to the newly launched Acer Aspire One D255, and as such has the same specifications.

The 10.1-inch netbook has an LED backlit display with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. It’s powered by the new dual core Intel Atom N550 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. It has a 6-cell battery which is rated for 7.5 hours of use, comes with Windows 7 Starter Edition, and weighs 2.8 pounds.
Our friends at NetbookNews.de noticed the new Packard Bell Dot SE for sale for about €400.
We expect to see the Dot SE available at a number of stores in Europe and the UK, but we don’t expect to see it launched in the US.

Sony is out with their latest PMP, the A845. The advertisement looked good right? But does it really deliver “as shown on TV”? We plug-in the earphones and find out!
Design
The device has a sleek look, with a crystal clear 2.8 inch OLED display on the front. Below the display are the main function keys laid out in a round dial format. In the centre is the play/pause button, surrounding this are the navigation keys, which help you to navigate through the menu, playlists, and also act as a fast forward or backward keys while playing a song or a video. Just outside the navigation keys there are two buttons for Home/Back and Option/Power respectively. On the right-side of the player are the volume keys and the hold key. At the bottom, there’s the 3.5 mm audio jack and the proprietary Sony WM-Port for transferring files. Weighing at just about 62 grams, it’s quite light.
Overall, the design is awesome, the buttons are well-spaced, the device is light-weight and quite convenient to slip into your pocket!
Features and Performance
Starting with the magnificent display screen, it’s a WQVGA with a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels supporting 262,144 colors. The User interface, which may not feel intuitive at first glance, is rather easy to navigate in between songs, menus, photos and videos and very simply operates smoothly. With a capacity of 16 GB, there’s a lot of music, podcasts, videos and photos to store.
Moving on the audio performance, which in one word is brilliant! The fact that it comes bundled with a pair of in-ear headphones earns it a brownie point. The music quality is really satisfying and is guaranteed to set your body in rhythm! The bass and the treble are well balanced, and with the Digital Noise Cancellation (DNC) function, you can further enhance the listening experience by selecting any one of the three pre-set modes (In-train, In-flight, office) in the player as per the surrounding. Tune up the volume, and public commotion is history! On the audio perspective, it surely does the job.
Video performance is no different than the audio, and picture quality is absolutely stunning! There is no particular problem with framing, and the images are absolutely crisp. With a satisfying experience, there is nothing to grumble on the video grounds either.
Images are stored in the jpeg format and are clear to view, so you don’t have much to complain over here either. Audio recording is very good, and the recording playback is nice. The FM reception is pretty okay, and all you get in closed rooms is static! The A845 has some good battery life, with 28 hours 30 minutes of audio and 8 hours 15 minutes of video playback.
Is it safe to say that performance-wise the A845 is flawless? No. One thing that was not good about the PMP was that of the file formats supported. It supports only MP3, WMA and AAC-LC formats for audio, MPEG-4 and Windows Media Video for the video and JPEG for the images; which are not many, and that is not very helpful at times. If you have a player that’s compatible with most formats it helps with just dumping your favorite songs or videos without taking the hassles of converting them.
Otherwise, performance makes this player a sure-winner!
Verdict
The A845 has made us happy in more ways than one. It certainly deserves points right from design to the features and performance. How much is it for? Now here’s another reason where you smile again, at Rs. 11,990, where you’re getting great audio/video experience, a storage of 16 GB, and a brand like Sony, you shouldn’t think any further for this awesome PMP. Yes it has problems with the file formats, but it easily overshadows that problem with the performance! Advice? Go for it!

Samsung have just announced their new NF series of netbooks to the world.This new series consists of three new models, the Samsung NF310, the NF210 and the NF110. The NF310 as you might expect is the new highend model, with the NF210 taking the middle place, and the NF110 listed as the bargain model, which doesn’t look set to have a US release.
The top two models make use of the new Intel Atom dual core N550 processor for even faster performance.
This latest Samsung NF series of netbooks are due to be available in both the US and Europe as soon as next month (October).
I have always been very keen on Samsung’s netbooks, and these newest models both look and sound great.
Samsung NF310
The Samsung NF310 is the new highend netbook from Samsung. The 10.1-inch netbook stands out from the rest of the netbook market by featuring an “HD” 1366 x 768 pixel design, along with having a high quality chassis and metallic trackpad. It is powered by the dual core Atom N550 processor or single core Atom N455. It also features 1 or 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, 3D SRS Premium sound, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a chicklet keyboard, and optional 3G.
As it is powered by the dual core processor, it is powerful enough to playback HD videos on the HD display.
It runs Windows 7 Starter and has an 11 hour 48Wh 6-cell battery,
It will be available for $399 in October.
Samsung NF210
The Samsung NF210 can be seen as the middle range model, but in my eyes this still seems to be a premium netbook. It has an identical chassis to the NF310 but with a glossy lid. The trackpad is flush to the palm rest with small raised dots on the trackpad.
It has a 10.1-inch display with a standard 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and matte finish. It’s nice to see Samsung has kept the matte finish, as this helps to cut down on reflections. It is also powered by the dual core Intel Atom N550 or N455 processors, along with 1 or 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, SRS 3D surround sound and Windows 7 starter.
The battery on the Samsung NF210 has a very high capacity and rating of 14.5 hours / 66Wh 6-cell.
The Samsung NF210 will apparently be exclusive to Sam’s Club in the US for $379, but available elsewhere in Europe.
Samsung NF110
The Samsung NF110 is their “affordable” model, which looks set to replace the N150. It has the same keyboard as found on the N150, and a slightly cheaper plastic finish. It isn’t bad at all though, with the Intel Atom N475 processor, and 1 or 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter Edition/.
Last of all, the base NF110 model. Plastics look a little cheaper. Matte white on the inside, glossy black lid and screen bezel. Samsung keyboard as the N150 so I’m guessing this will be the new N150. We’ve got a single core Atom N475 processor, 1 / 2GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD and Windows 7 Starter.

Netbook model names normally aren’t exactly easy to remember and I’m sure many people are also confused by the sometimes very similar model names.It looks like Acer is abut to change that, well on one model at least, with the Acer Aspire One Happy.
This is without a doubt the the most fun netbook model names I have ever seen, and equally the easiest to remember. It sure beats for example the Acer Aspire One AOD521!
The Acer Aspire One Happy looks to be a re-branded Acer Aspire One D255 with a number of bright color options. While it might not be an ideal business looking netbook, it sure does look lively, and I guess happy!

The display bezel and keyboard have are both white, while the lid and palm rest area have the bright colorful finish.
Just as the the Acer AOD255 the Acer Happy is powered by the new dual core 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 processor, along with 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and runs Windows 7 Stater Edition.
Acer have yet to confirm this model, and it could still change, but I hope they keep it. This information comes from reliable Acer source, Macles.
